When is Thanksgiving Break 2026?

Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 26, 2026. Published school closures include November 26–27, November 25–27 and the full November 23–27 week. Your district’s calendar determines Wednesday dismissal and the Monday return.

Thanksgiving Break 2026: published school dates

These three school systems illustrate different lengths of Thanksgiving recess. Each date comes from the district’s own calendar. An example applies to that school system, not every school in its state.

How long is Thanksgiving break, including weekends?

For a regular Monday–Friday school schedule, the three patterns above produce different stretches away:

• Two school days: Thursday–Friday, November 26–27, gives four consecutive days through Sunday, November 29.
• Three school days: Wednesday–Friday, November 25–27, gives five consecutive days through November 29.
• A full school week: Monday–Friday, November 23–27, gives nine consecutive days when both weekends, November 21–22 and November 28–29, are included.

These counts describe the named closure plus ordinary weekends. A conference day, a Monday holiday or a different attendance schedule can change the actual window.

Check Wednesday, November 25 and Monday, November 30

Wednesday can be a full school day, an early dismissal or a day off. Seattle’s calendar notes identify November 23–25 conferences for most elementary and K–8 schools, while most middle schools remain open. The district-wide November 26–27 holidays do not describe every grade’s full time away.

The Monday after Thanksgiving is another important check. Allentown includes November 30 in its Thanksgiving holiday and also identifies November 25 as a conference day with no students. A national assumption that everyone returns Monday would miss that schedule.

Some published days are conditional. In Charleston County, November 23–24 may become weather make-up days. Follow the district’s current notices before treating the full week as guaranteed time off.

A four-step Thanksgiving planning check

1. Confirm the last attendance day and dismissal time. Record whether your student has classes or an early release on November 25. An afternoon dismissal still requires a pickup plan.
2. Match every child’s calendar. Check the grade, campus and program, especially when siblings attend different districts or a mix of public, charter and private schools.
3. Write down the first student day back. Check November 30 and any attached conference or staff workdays before arranging a return trip.
4. Cover the gap with work and activities. Compare the school closure with your own work schedule, childcare opening days and any sports or activity commitments.

If you teach or work in a school, use the employee calendar for your own obligations. A student holiday may still be a staff workday. Keep the official calendar link handy so you can check revisions before the break.

Thanksgiving break, the holiday and fall break

Thanksgiving Day is the November 26 holiday; Thanksgiving break is the school’s surrounding closure. A separate fall break can appear earlier in the semester. Neither label establishes the dates of the other.
