Academic Calendar

The U.S. school year usually runs about 180 instructional days, from August or early September to late May or June, but start dates, end dates and calendar structure differ by state and district.

These guides cover how the school year is built — traditional, balanced and year-round calendars, semesters and grading periods — and when schools typically start back in each region. For break-by-break timing, see the school breaks calendar and the state guides.
